This depends on telescope size and weight (inertia). While everyone would like
a fast slew speed, this is not an antiaircraft gun. I have found 2 degrees a
second to be a satisfactory rate for an 8" f/12 Newt on a GEM. The same for a
DOB of similar proportions. To get much faster, one would need separate
slewing motors, encoders for feedback and a more complex clutch system to move
between tracking and slewing modes. I love simplicity. If I have to move fast,
I move scope manually.
