ATM I just recieved a new Byers gear

I just recieved my new Byers 10" gear for my GEM mount (I can't believe I spent that much money!!!). It comes with a motor and some short instructions on how to make the motor work. I would like to make some kind of handpad and frecuency regulator to control it. Does anyone have a design of the circuits I should use?

I've also thought about using some kind of stepper motors, but I don't know how would this result. I need a really precise drive for accurate photography.

 

Please HELP me, any little advice and/or suggestion and any details about how to do it as well as liks related will be greatly appreciated.
