one idea I've thinking about for a very thin mirror would be to combine
a thin
blank with some carbon fiber tubing...
How about this :
Take a thin blank... pyrex would be pretty good.
Glue on the back of that blank some half diameters sections of carbon
fiber tubing
(1 inch type) using some of that 3M epoxy (i forgot the SN) with low
CTE.
Put those carbon tubes in a radial way... like the spokes of a bicycle
weel... that
way there will be no problem with air flow.
The carbon tubing should be a very good match for the CTE of Pyrex...
certainly
way closer than AL.
A Radial structure of 1 inch Carbon tubes is really strong... this part
will not
flex.
