Robert,
I was asking myself that same question a couple of years ago while
standing atop Mt. Whitney and ... wow what a view! But seriously, I
used a slitless tester recently that used a camera shutter release cable
to actuate a lever to move the knife edge. The nice part about the cable
was that it allowed the user to adjust the knife edge without disturbing
the tester. This meant less vibration. I plan to use a combination a
lever with a cable and a small ball bearing slide and micrometer to move
the KE. The two will work independently. The pivot for the lever is
mounted on the slide, so either the micrometer/slide or the cable/lever
will move the lever with KE. It's not the simplest approach by FAR, but
then all parts were sitting around in the junk box so..Why Not? As to
the cable thread pitch? Since it's such a weird nonstandard tapered
thing, I'm going to take the advice of several from the list who
suggested some sort of clamp or fixture to hold the end of the cable.
Thanks!
