Donald Clement asked:

I'm going to use a camera shutter release cable in a foucault tester. Does
anyone know the diameter and thread pitch for the connector on a typical
35mm camera shutter release cable?

I cannot tell you the exact thread size. But I can tell you that it is no
standard thread. The threads on a cable realease are tapered and coarse. I
do not doubt that you can jury rig some acceptable threads through a small
hole in 1/16" thick metal. Or do as I planned: run the cable release through
a drilled block ( mine is a 3/8" bar stock) and hold it there with a set screw
tapped into the side of the block. That will allow you to more carfully set
the position of the release.
