This brings up a question or two I have.. I've bought (really cheap) the
remains of an amateur mirror making project gone awry.. The guy dropped his
blank (in final stages of polishing - it reflects a nicely focused image),
breaking off a quarter-sized chip out of the face.. Ouch.. It's a 9 1/2
incher, with an 8" pitch covered pyrex tool..
I'd like to know what kind of glass I've got here.. Any way of telling..? It
appears yellowish compared to plate and pyrex blanks..
And I wonder what to do with the old grits.. Probably throw 'em out due to
lack of purity guarantee??
Finally, remove the old pitch using the freezer and salvage a good blank?? Or
can pitch be salvaged (gosh, I feel dumb asking that one)..
All I could get out of the seller was the sad tale that it slid off the lap
when he left it there to retrieve something.. A lesson or two there, ehh..?
