Re: ATM Byers Still in Business
Byers has specialized in the optimization of worm gears for reduction in
periodic error. Worm gears usually used in applications where high gear
reduction and high torque transfer are required but by nature have a
twisted profile thereby generating back and forth movements that
astronomers do not want.
There are other techniques for achieving low transmission error with
high gear ratios. Many precision positioning systems use helical gears
driven by worms - end result is lower cost and improved accuracy at a
price of reduced torque handling abilities.
