Re: ATM drilling glass
Kreig, all,
For glass or rock I use diamond studded tool bits with a variable speed
flex shaff. I have used stone bit, but they wear out quickly. In either
case, its important to keep the bit and stock cool. This can be done with
a continous flow of water or other coolent, or by working the piece under
water. Localized heating in glass almost always results in fractures.
Diamond studded tools can be purchased at lapadairy supply houses or
through the mail from a number of companies which advertise in "Lapadary
Journal" an on the net. Also Kreig, on occasion I have seen them at Boeing
surplus, in the tool barn.
