If you start out with a full sized blank, you can go a very long
way - half the distance or more through the glass - before things
start to become dicey for any particular piece of glass and that
is a whole lot of hogging!!!
If the curve turns out to be too deep, just work the edges and
don't forget to keep a chamfer around the edges or you will get
chips out of the glass which is a lot more dangerous to your
fingers than it is to the glass as they will cut deeply into the
unwary fingers to your dismay. I didn't understand why the
insistance on the bevel with my first mirror and got a lot of
thoese little chips off of the glass and endeed up with a lot of
bandaids being used until I learned why they were happening.  The
old folks thousands of years ago learned about chipping their old
stone spearpoints and such by pressure point chipping of the
tools and it worked very well for them!
