I have Osloedu, which runs on Linux. There are some nuances about
the *.lens formatted output from the Windows version that give
errors in the Linux version. However, for the basic things I am
doing, like Schmidt designs, it seems to work, and catches my
worst mistakes. These designs have a corrector plus mirror, and
in some cases a field flattener. I have managed to design around
a desired field angle and image surface size. There is a database
of glass types and it is possible to enter a custom glass. In my
case, I experimented with plate glass correctors. Within this list,
we have discussed and swapped a lot of Oslo lens files over the
years. I have not used anything else, other than my own software
for optical design, and all of this has been done using Linux or
in some cases BSD.
Contact me off list if you have trouble finding Osloedu or want
to discuss my software (math, no graphics, etc)
Dominic
