That sounds like somebody's bright idea for a light source.  A
hot wire would make a fair line source of light if the wirre is
real fine which is something easily obtainable.
Probably just an odd variation on the slit source of light
because the inveentor did n't want to put up a narrow slit for a
wide angle source of light.
