[ATM] flex rocker azimuth stickiness

I have a 12 inch flex rocker mounted newtonian.  I am finding it
difficult to get smooth azimuth motion.  The bearing surfaces
are ebony star and teflon.  I do my best to keep the formica
clean but find the teflon gets clogged with dust very easily. 
When this happens the azimith bearing becomes almost immovable.
Even when completely clean, the azimuth motion is stiffer than I
would like.

I was thinking of switching to a smooth laminex surface (instead
of the ebony star)and using bearings or casters instead of
teflon. 

I would be interested in hearing how others would deal with
this.
