Thank you for the insight. I understand that Ellison's work from The 
Amateur's telescope is reproduced almost in it's entirety in ATM volume 1.

I certainly understand why his section on silvering was omitted, it's a 
procedure that can have explosive consequences if not done properly.

I have read Ellison's contribution to ATM volume 1 many times over and learn 
something new everytime, sort of like viewing a Dali work.
