The flanges can be quite large. They are designed to mate against a
surface. I'd estimate that my
1" flange is about 3" in diameter and almost solid iron across that
diameter. A 2" flange is a good
4 or 5" in diameter. I take my portable band saw and cut grooves into
the flange to make it semi-
segmented.
