Since you can get them at cost, I would give it a try. Normally
treadmills have their own rating. That is, 'treadmill duty rated'. For
the home end machine they assume you will give up short order. My
treadmill motor had the magnets GLUED in. When the glue gave way, it
was dead. In you case though, you may be able to get replacements.
Remember that the machine itself is a lot of work and if you build it
around a part that breaks and you can't get later......
