[ATM] Sidewalk or Grass walk rookie observer's

To all on the list,

We have all been through the "rookie" questions, and some of the
responses are very funny.
Sometimes the responses of the Telescope owner's are too deep for the
"sidewalk guy"
I find that explaining that the size of the telescope has nothing to do
with "power or magnification", just with how much more definition or
contrast you can see.. I give them the
television explanation..... A small telescope is like a black and white TV
on an antenna. A meduim size telescope is like a color TV with cable. A
large telescope is like a color TV with high definition.
And the Big Telescopes up on the mountains, well they are the eagle
eye's... And finally the Hubble Photos you see in magazines are from outer
space, and though they look fantastic, you will never see them through this
little eyepiece, everything is "black and white" on earth... Of course there
are those giant light bucket DOB's that we all want, that give you a little
green swirl or tint of red... Get up on that ladder and look to the side of
the eyepiece, can you see it.. I think so..,come on, you can't see it.....
To explain to someone that is passing through, and expecting magazine
color and definition, they will most likely be let down by "your" telescope
image. .. But the ones who understand the instrument and the precision it
takes to Make, guide, and pinpoint an object for observation, are forever
hooked, even if the Andromeda galaxy looks like a fuzzy white egg..
