To quickly charge a pitch lap I sprinkle a generous amount of (dry)
Cerium powder on the slightly damp, freshly-channelled, unused lap,
and I spread it around on the facets with my finger. Then I press the
lap on the mirror with thick Cerium slurry until contact is achieved.
Repeat a time or two if you like.

This quickly gets Cerium into the pitch, resulting in nearly immediate
polishing action. Listen - you can hear it!
