Please tell us more specifics what you're referring to? I would also like to

Can I make the assumption that you do not have access
to a polishing machine?
Some people have good luck using the A-B-C method with
3 different plates, alternating as you grind.
If you search the archives, grinding flats, or
something similiar, you should find many references to
the many threads that have been wooven along this
topic, and just checking, there seems to be quite a
few references to polishing flats.
If you have acess, or can make a simple polishing
machine, the task will be a lot easier, in my humble
opinion.
