[ATM] making optical flats

Hi,
I've tried googling and searching the archives, but I can't seem to find 
modern instructions on making optical flats. Right now I have the artical in 
the ATM vol. 1, but I hesitate to follow those instructions, lest I ever 
have to explain myself to Richard ;)

Anyone have a link that might help me?  I plan to make it from 8" full 
thickness pyrex.
