I'm just about to buy a similar gadget (could be very useful), but I was 
thinking in terms of using the pyroelectric sensor from an old movement 
detector unit in a controller circuit.  It would only need to measure 
temperature differential between the air and the mirror, not the actual 
value. Could be quite an interesting project.  Of course, a pair of 
thermistors might be a whole lot simpler...
