Re: [ATM] I apologize

Morning All,
Hmmmm, now that this is all sorted out, I propose that we all sit
down in the traditional ozzie fashion and crack open a tinnie........ In
other words lets have a virtual beer and move on....... ;-)

I'm waiting for mine and Manuels shifts to align while we do some
prep work on the tools. We'll be going back to #120 to get rid of the crack.
We'll use the machine for grinding and polishing as before but with a slight
twist. After getting in a few hours of machine polishing, we've both been
thinking about mels idea of using an oversize lap to keep the edge under
control. An 8" as I recall would use a 9.5" lap One thing has me puzzled
though. The 1/3rd coc would take the glass ALMOST to the edge of the lap
thereby avoiding the edge of the lap. Is that correct? It seemed we were
putting in a turned edge by hand so why not give it a try? Lessons we
learned from the previous sessions on the mirror are
#1	1/4 coc can cause roughness no matter how slow or smooth you are
when polishing.
#2	Hand polishing can be quite effective after using the machine to get
the majority of the polish in.
#3	mot occasionally is not as sensitive as I thought to heat from the
hands. It all depends how the glass is held/pushed with respect to finger
placement.
#4	I've GOT to get a better arm stop for the machine.
#5	Very thin cerium is better
#6	Humidity seems to be as important as the temperature when polishing.
#7	Pitch hardness needs to be checked as well. Pitch hanging around
sealed for 3 yrs in an ozzie shed in summer seems to lose some volatiles and
as a result seems to act harder.
And last but not least
#8	When I think I'm doing 1/3rd coc, it may not be what someone else
thinks is 1/3rd coc..........

Cheers

John
