Sorry for the late reply... I have received my 8" diagonal
from Newport Glass, and can have a look regarding thickness.
It is made out of pyrex, and I have not made the mounting
yet. I think of a removable harness for the mirror (see
the site of Frederic Gea, where the 800 mm is shown, he made
a spider from which the mirror + harness can be locked 
/ unlocked.
