Re: [ATM] machine grinding

sander??
I can't say, because I don't remember the setup of moving parts in an
orbital sander.

account for that?
I've never heard of that approach. Most folks emphasize setting things up
so that the tool is free to rotate in any direction...i.e. the hole is
centered. If you offset the tool hole...you lose the ability for it to
freely rotate, it will always tend to end up with one side facing out or in
with respect to the mirror's center...and that may be an invitation to
create zonal rings in the mirror. That's not what you want.
You can experiment with stuff that is outside the established
techniques...may find a new, useful approach, but you may also end up
wasting time. If you stick with established techniques you're more likely
to get desired results on the first try. (If you do make an offset tool,
let us know how it turns out...good or bad.)

Have you posted this question on the Mirror-O-Matic list? They may have an
answer for you faster since that's what you're asking about.

"This list is for discussion about the "Mirror-o-Matic" telescope mirror
grinding machine, as developed by Dennis Rech. Likely topics might be about
construction and modification of the machine, and about grinding and
polishing technique."
