Re: [ATM] Extending a wifi network
Thanks again, everybody.
Arjan te Marvelde pointed me to a freeware product called Net
Stumbler <http://www.netstumbler.com/> that's considerably more
informative than the software that comes with my wireless cards. It
showed I had a fairly stable signal of -80 dbm outside at the
observatory that pretty much disappears inside, so that last inch of
building materials is killing the signal.
I ordered a couple of backfire directional antennas from these guys:
<http://radiolabs.com/>. I'm going to try attaching one directly to
the repeater and mounting one outside at the observatory. That should
give me plenty of signal if the nominal specs are close to correct.
I'll let you know how it works. While I'm waiting I have a disused
directv dish that I might play with too. I think I'll take a pass on
the kilowatt amplifier idea though.
