Ken, I did think of this configuration. Biggest problem with it is that the size of the secondary would be
huge, and it would have to be elliptical. I really want to fold the light path with a secondary
tilted 20 degrees. This would be a nearly circular secondary. I think with some clever design that
large folded newtonians are the wave of the future.

Why not "go back to a folded configuration" as you say by placing another diagonal flat just outside the tube and redirect the photons back alongside the tube? You could enclose and baffle the new diagonal so that your corrector lens would be shielded from the direct light you wish to avoid. This would allow you to use a sled type focuser and hang VERY heavy objects with full support on it etc...
