  Why not "go back to a folded configuration" as you say by placing another diagonal flat just outside the tube and redirect the photons back alongside the tube? You could enclose and baffle the new diagonal so that your corrector lens would be shielded from the direct light you wish to avoid. This would allow you to use a sled type focuser and hang VERY heavy objects with full support on it etc...
