[ATM] 40" mirror

There was a 4 page article on fusing your own lightweight honeycomb
mirror in Telescope Making mag #14, Winter 81/82. One of the 2 authors
is JRP Angel, who I believe is still at the U of Arizona, melting and
spinning HUGE mirrors. Back in 81 they had justcompleted a 1.2 meter
honeycomb mirror and were working on a 1.8 meter.
In a follow-up letter in TM 15, another person recommends the
following references: by R Fournier: "Electric Kiln Construction for
Potters", F A Colson: "Kiln Building with Space Age Materials" and two
by F. Schuler: "Glassforming" and "Flameworking", the latter said to be
especially important in its discussion of proper annealing for both
plate and pyrex from 1/2 to 4" thick.
Tho 20 years old now, TM mag is still amazing. Just stumbled across
Dick Suiter's original work on star testing and mirror testing. Many,
many of these articles need preservation in a Will-Bell hardcover.
