There have been several scopes in the literature for viewing the sun without
having any problems. Uncoated optics, filters at 45 degrees angle that also
provide a secondary for the Newtonian scope and Brewseter prisms and other
things have all benn done. Probably the only thing that hasn't been done is
doing a very long focus reflector to put an image on a wall of a building
has been published somewhere in the popular press.
I'd love to see somebody do a solar scope that puts an image of significant
size on a wall and publish it in one of the popular publications.
