It seems commonly accepted that the coefficient of static friction is
always greater than the coeficient of kinetic friction.  That is, it's hard
to get it moving, but easy to keep it moving.  In fact, there are a few
material on material interfaces that exhibit the opposite behavior.  That
is, it gets a little harder to keep it moving after it starts moving.  A
graphite Teflon composite, Graflon, is one such material.  This makes the
stuff ideal for situations where stick-slip is unacceptable.
