You want those inserts that the pool cue makers use or make one up the size
that you want.  Don't do aluminum on aluminum or you WILL get galling.
Better to make them from steel or brass.  One brass side (or even just use a
brass or steel thread on one side) will also work well.  Anybody with a
lathe capable of turning threads will turn out a bunch for you in short
order.
