There is one difference between a CS and a C mount lens - the distance
between the focal plane and the mounting plane. The CS lens is closer to
the focal plane by about 1/8" or so (from memory of handling the adapter).
This is about the right amount to make a short focus problem like you are
having. The adapter for the C mount lens is normally screwed into the CS
mount and that accepts the threads for the C mount lens.
