I have done some lens edging whereby I used pitch to hold the lens surface
to an upright aluminum tube mounted to the grinding machine table. The first 
attempts were with rather thin tubing and the tubing would change diameter 
faster than the pitch would flow thereby breaking the bond between the pitch 
and tubing. I ended up using a thicker tubing and a MUCH SOFTER
pitch to make the connection. You'll need to match the tool to the job.

I'm interested in hearing more on the PVC WARPING TAPE... I might
have a use for this stuff.
