Good luck then!  I try to remember that if my final grit is not so good,
extra polishing time can make up for it.  If you have a machine for
polishing (an old dryer or something that turns a table or drum, then
using a stick, lazily push the mirror from side to side while the table
turns faster underneath), that can make up for a lot of scratches and
pits.
