The diffraction effects may actually be "speckle" which is a fringing effect
and is an artifact that originates exclusively from within the laser. I
wonder if the motion of this fringing that seems apparent thru your eyeball
is caused by the minute involuntary movement of your eye, whereas the camera
is stationary.
Melles Griot makes a device called a "Speckle Eater"( hi-tech term!). It
consists of a rotating, motor-driven, fine matte white disk that you train a
laser on and the speckle is "homogenized". Very effectively, too.
