FWIW, I noticed that when the 2 AA batteries in my walkman "die" that they
have 2.4 to 2.5 volts
left in the pair, which just happens to be the forward voltage of my LED.
Next time the LED fails
to work, I'll measure what is left in the pair (off hand, I think it was
about a volt). I can get a good
10 to 12 hours of >continuos< use from these "dead" batteries.
