This does not work well if there is a large swing in temp
between day & night - the bldg & scope will be much warmer
at nightfall & cooling the optics down with fans etc
may be neccessary. I have used thermostatically operated
fans in my observatory to reduce the temp increase in
daytime, and at NASA/Houston we set the air conditioning in the dome
to be ~ the temp we expected for the following night's
observing. The more recent observatories have incorporated
active thermal controls in their telescope/dome systems to
deal with these problems, such as at Apache Point near here.
