ATM Cutting aluminum
I wanted to thank all of you who commented on cutting aluminum with carbide
blades. I read and re-read all the posts and finally tried it myself. I am
so excited about the results!! I couldn't believe how easily the carbide
blade cut aluminum. Cutting 3/8" thick stock was like the proverbial "hot
knife through butter". The finish is super-smooth.
For the record, I used the following blade, purchased from McMaster-Carr:
6910A55 - Nonferrous Metal-Cutting Carbide Tipped Blade 10" Dia, 5/8" Arbor,
60 Teeth, .126" Kerf, 6500 RPM $49.58 EA
and the following wax lubricant, also from McMaster-Carr:
1311K1 - Standard Stick Wax 15 Ounce Peel-Away Paper Cartridge $5.40 EA
