Nope, this guy has had this mirror polished out fully for almost a year now
and just in doing polishing with the mirror on top of the lap, he's added
2.5" of focal length!  The mirror is polished and the ring (it's about 1/4"
or so) is quite persistant.  The guy is getting a bit frustrated with it for
good reason.  It's almost like the Pyrex was chilled, picked up some
contamination while melted in the mold or something so that the edge is
harder than the center part.  He's just gotten a whole new lap on a new
substrate and it's still all there.  I almost feel like giving him a new
piece of glass and having him work on that and let him do the Porter
correction for poor glass on that piece with full ceremonies.
