Re: ATM Focal plane strobe




IIRC this was done a long time ago with the Lick 120",
a variable speed mechanical chopper, and a video camera.
The images were shown in Sky/Tel. The 'strobe' speed
was adjusted to a beat frequency of 1 Hz and the pulsar
could be seen on the video screen switching on/off once
per second.

An Image Intensifier/chopper could be tried to increase the
pulsar's brightness, they can yield a 2 mag gain with
point sources and the S-20 types have good blue response
as well. The IR ones will gave less gain on blue objects.
