Re: ATM - Windows CE (Palmtop Computers)
Windows CE (aka WinCE!) should not be confused with DOS. Most WinCE
platforms do not use Intel processors, and even if they did they aren't
PC's, and you shouldn't expect programs written for DOS/PC to work.
Now, given the right set of compilers/vendor doc you should be able
to put something like Mel's software on a suitable WinCE device, but
it would be an adventure.
If I were going this route, (and believe me, I've thought about it!)
I would start from MacDobs (Jack Brindle's project) and write software
to work with his protocols. The advantage being that you don't have
to muck around with real time control of signals on a (possibly
non-existent) parallel port. You just have to tell the system when
you want the scope pointing in a given direction, and a dedicated
controller takes care of the rest (over-simplification, I know).
This is a lot cleaner than having a machine sitting in a tight loop
sending out pulses at exactly the right time.
That said, my current plan is to go ahead and implement Mel's system
on an old laptop, and move to the more elegant solution when working
parts become available. Of course, I have to actually get a scope
put (back) together first ;-)
