Re: ATM Adhesives
<< A while back there was a thread on how to glue the sides of the
mirror boxes and such together and which kind of glue was best for
this...Polyurethane glue was the best stuff I had ever used for gluing
surfaces together, especially for filling gaps.
This stuf does seem to glue very well, but I've found that it is also
very brittle. I've used this stuff many times and never had any trouble
until the other day when I just happened to drop the pieces. They
separated as it they had not been glued at all. Apparently any sharp
rap fractures the joint very easily. So for a scope framework, this
could be disastrous if it were dropped or something.
So, I'll now withdraw my support for this stuff, with my tail
between my legs and shut up. hope no one has had any problems caused
form it.>>
Jerry, I have used at least two bottles of polyurethane glue and
haven't had a problem. Glues, even epoxy, are not meant for filling
loose joints. The mating surfaces should be straight and true and match
close enough that a thin feeler gage won't fit between them. This is
the most common problem experienced in furniture/cabinet making.
