Yep - don't waste time trying to fix it. I'm actually going to try
making a crayford type for it, eventually.

Nothing beats aperture!

Not at all. The primary was held in with a pipe strap and duct tape (I
kid you not). The secondary is held in by a piece of double-sided-sticky
rubber. I cut through it part way, and it came away almost in one piece.
Acetone took the remaining glue and flat black paint off the back of the
secondary.
