Re: ATM "more normal" scope pix
This question wasn't directed to me but I like it anyway. May I add a few
points?
Webster's New World Dictionary: normal: adj. 1. conforming with an
accepted standard or norm; natural; usual 2. average in intelligence, etc.
:-)
If the scope is what can be considered a "Dob", as in John Dobson, then it
can be argued that the usual and standard is considered a sonotube style,
teflon/ebony star/alt-az scope. I didn't get the impression the question
was posed to offend as much as it was to solicit info and pictures of the
this particular Dob type scope. Possibly because a truss style "Dob" may
look difficult to build for a first time scope builder. The advantages of
truss style scopes may not be needed with smaller mirrors for some folks.
As to the advantages of the sonotube scope. Not many, but generally less
expensive to build, and somewhat easier to fabricate. Readying the scope
for use is easier as there is virtually no assembly required. The mirror
is better protected. Not big advantages really, but considerations anyway.
For instance if the scope is for kids or the first time homemade 8" Newt.
