I started with a 286, and quickly changed to another 486 from the same
junkbox.
You really have to have a VGA to see anything, and I'd consider a 486/33
about the minimum for decent update time in focus mode and save to disk in
multi-image mode.
It will "work" with a slower processor, but 486 motherboards know about SIMM
memory instead of chips, and so on.... much more reliable.
You also have a chance of a bios that won't crash this January.
486 motherboards go for $10 at a hamfest or $25 at a clone store.
