ATM (Fwd) Copier Lenses and mirrors

Hello all,

Apologies if this has gone out already, but I didn't see it in the
digest anywhere...

I ripped some of the guts out of a copy machine yesterday. The
lens is about 1.5" in diameter. How do people make "copyscopes"
with such small lenses ?? Or did I just get a copy machine that is
more/less modern than the ones most people get their lenses from.

Pursuing the matter in a different direction (as this lens appears
unsuitable to use for anything in its current form), what solvent is
likely to dissolve the cement used to retain lenses in a mount? I
removed the retaining clips that appeared to hold the lens elements
in place but they are still rock solid in their metal mount.

Has anyone ever investigated the quality of the first surface mirrors
in a copier? I have some big enough pieces to produce a small
diagonal from - how viable might this be?

Your assistance is most appreciated.

Craig

BTW: I now have a plate glass blank for an 8" mirror (3/4" inch
thick) and have just ordered some abrasives to start my first mirror.
With any luck I will get going soon (work and other commitments
willing :-))).
