ATM Street Lights

Either we are victims of urban legends or all street lights are not
created equal.

When I lived in Chicago, I was surrounded by sodium vapor lights.
I had the misfortune to live on a corner and there were at least 6
within 100 feet of my house. Seems like every time there is an
election in Chicago, up go more street lights.

I tried a 500,000 candle power NightBlaster from every angle on the
ground and from my roof, it hadn't the slightest effect on the lights.
I did likewise with a laser with similar results.

Seems pretty obvious to me that if I were asked to design the sensor
housing, it would point up and be shielded from sources of ground light.
Just the opposite of how we like to see lights made.

The only luck I ever had in this regard was to find a ComEd truck
parked in the alley on lunch break. I asked the guys what the hell
this light was for as it was only 15 feet from that light. No
problem, he says and it was gone when I got back from the mail box.

Would you believe, that about two days later the neighbor behind
informed me that he called ComEd to get the light back so not
to worry. I asked him what the hell he wants the light for and he
said it's real nice when his grandchildren play on the swing set
at night. I told him to buy his own light. I don't want it and
don't want to pay for his grandchildren's happiness.
