ATM Astronomy Club ideas

I am the president of the Smoky Mountain Astronomical Society in Knoxville,
Tn. We have discussed some ideas at a recent meeting that I would like to
get some opinions about.

Idea 1: Workshops, for both members and non-members. Some ideas that were
brought up were a telescope building workshop and on astrophotography. On
the telescope workshop, I'm sure other clubs have done these. What sort of
results did you have? Was there a lot of interest in the workshop? What
size of scopes were built and were they from kits or scratch built? On the
astrophotography workshop, what all was done and how was the response to
this workshop?

Idea 2: Community Television Channel Program.  We have a local, cable only,
community tv channel. Anyone can for a cost of $24. per person can have
access to the studio, cameras, and production equipment. Program air time
is done by lottery. Has any other club done an astronomy program for
something like this?
