Iron-on "Melamine edging" (available in hardware stores, intended
for edging particle board shelves) makes a nice bearing surface.

For something as light as a 4.5", though, Melamine on Teflon may be
too slippery; you may find that you need to increase the friction
dramatically to have a dob that remains stable when you change eyepieces.
