Gasp! How big is the sheet. I pay under $2 for a 12"x12" sheet.

Try a full size one piece tile for rough grinding and then use this for
the base of your pitch lap later. Make a new tool, fitted to the mirror
using the small tiles at the end of rough grinding. Saves work later if
you decide to go back to fine grinding once you have polished for a while.
Common thing for a first timer to have to do. Painful experience speaking
here.
