ATM A Visit to Cal Tech

-- [ From: Richard Schwartz * EMC.Ver #2.5.02 ] --

Today I visited the Cal Tech campus to gather some Applied Optics papers
from the Millikan Library (used to be featured on that TV series on ESP).
It is less of a drive and parking hassle than UCLA, though I can't check out
books there.

While there, I noticed the astronomy building with two observatory domes.
Not remembering the second dome, I stopped in the Astronomy department
office and inquired.

What is in the dome? A 1/10 scale model of the Palomar 200? A 1/3 scale
model of the Mt. Wilson 60?

The second dome is new. The whole building was recently remodeled. Prior to
the remodeling, the observatory domes had been declared unsafe, and fallen
into disuse. (What do you expect from an observatory in light-polluted
downtown Pasadena?). One dome is empty. The other dome has a newly
installed telescope that students are allowed to use only after
demonstrating that they are experts at using telescopes.

The new telescope is a C-14.
